One-In-Teen Youth Services

Adult Sponsor Agreement

The purpose of the One-In-Teen sponsor is to provide a positive role model for the youth members of the One-in-Teen support group, to provide structure and guidance, to provide a supportive atmosphere, to be available to active members in a crisis, and to provide a confidential person for members to talk with.

I acknowledge and agree that:

I understand that membership and attendance of One-In-Teen meetings is limited to persons between the ages of 13 and 22 who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgenderal, or unsure of their sexual orientation. I understand that persons other than youth members and sponsors must request permission to attend meetings in advance. I also understand that it is the sponsor’s responsibility to ensure that these restrictions are enforced.

I understand the importance of confidentiality and that attendance at One-In-Teen meetings is confidential. I will not disclose the identity of any member or person attending One-In-Teen meetings without that person's prior permission.

I agree that information provided to me by a member or during a group meeting is confidential and may only be shared with another sponsor, and then only when appropriate.

I understand the importance of consistency and stability in the structure of the meetings. I will attend the weekly group meetings
consistently. I will provide notice to the other sponsors, in advance when possible, if I am unable to attend a meeting.

I understand the importance of the role of a sponsor and will endeavor to provide a positive role model for the youth members.

I will not date or have sex with anyone 22 years old or younger, and I will not date or have sex with anyone who has been a One-In-Teen member or client in the past 12 months.

I understand that I am expected to show respect to the members by not interrupting them with comments and side discussions when they are speaking.

I will not participate in One-In-Teen sponsored events or come onto the Community Center property while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. I will not make arrangements to meet with youth members at bars, nor will I promote or engage in illegal activities while in the company of youth members.

I understand that One-In-Teen has a grievance procedure to assist in the resolution of conflicts. If I have a problem with a youth member or sponsor which I cannot personally resolve, I will pursue resolution of the conflict through the One-In-Teen grievance procedure.

I will support youth members, adult sponsors, and adult volunteers in keeping their agreements.

I will not make unilateral decisions regarding the support group without consulting the other sponsors.

I understand that I may be discharged as a One-In-Teen sponsor, if I do not keep this agreement.

I have read, understand, and will abide by this agreement.
